Commission for Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group (MUARG)

I was commissioned by researchers from the Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group (MUARG for short!) to illustrate this piece to communicate their research. In this case, looking at how creative groups benefit the health and wellbeing of elderly people in urban communities.

I went along to a wonderful calligraphy workshop, facilitated by “Brian The Scribe” at the Wai Yin Community Centre in Manchester. A lovely group of participants arrived to create “messages to their future selves”. We chatted, enjoyed doing a creative activity together, and shared food to celebrate their last session. I took pictures and sketched some inspiration whilst we worked. Here’s what came together as the final piece, and some pictures of the workshop.

Thanks to Camilla Lewis and Niamh Kavanagh from the University of Manchester for working with me on this project.

Fine liner and watercolour.
