PeatZine with Mytholmroyd Cubs

I facilitated Hey Nature workshops as part of the PeatZine project (funded by CultureDale and the National Lottery Heritage Fund). Using bespoke resources that I created, we explored Heptonstall Moor together and did a scavenger hunt to find members of the moorland ecological community, including the elusive Sphagnum moss! Then, at Cub HQ, we did a creative art-ecology workshop, looking at soils and moss under the microscope, creative experimenting and illustrating the “bog beings” characters inspired by characteristics of the plant community.

The “Bog Beings” were exhibited alongside my Sphagnum illustration at an exhibition at The Local Motive, alongside work from other participants of the public engagements we did as part of the PeatZine artist collective.

The PeatZine project was produced Katie Bates from Turquoise Arts and was an artist-collective including poet Sally Baker, natural historian Paul Knights, sound artist Jo Kennedy, visual artist Sheila Tilmouth and the PeatZine designer Lou Cro.
