Tuesdays 4-6 pm (22nd September - 20th October), Dodnaze Community Centre, Hebden BridgeA short walk with stops to collect field notes: we will be exploring different habitats/organisms in the local landscape surrounding Hebden Bridge
Walks will be weather-dependent (up to a 2km radius of the centre)
We will take our notebooks, hand lenses, field guides and any other useful ecological tools for collecting specimens
A Nature Notebook sesh: we will return to the centre to develop our notebooks!
Documenting our adventures and the habitats/organisms we explored - practising ecological identification and naturalist field skills
Practicing sketching our journal pages
Painting with watercolours
Collage, stickers and other creative experimentation
About the facilitator: ✔️DBS Checked ✔️Public Liability Insured ✔️First Aid Trained ✔️Hill Skills Training ✔️ Wild Wonder Nature Journalling Educator (in training)
Sessions will be facilitated by Mel, an illustrator and naturalist with a background in natural sciences (specialised in natural products and soil science). A self-proclaimed Nature nerd and avid plant-spotter with an infectious enthusiasm for exploring the natural world with her Nature Notebooks.
Who is it for? 12-16 year-olds with an interest in Nature, art and exploring - or those who would like to get outside and develop those interests with Mel and a community of other Nature enthusiasts!
What will be provided? Art supplies, reference books, hand lenses, microscopes and other ecological equipmen, tea/coffee and juice
What to bring with you? Appropriate footwear, clothing and waterproofs for hiking (can change from school uniform in the centre), any of your preferred art supplies, or field guides if you have some, snacks!
