Purple Moor Grass forms dense tussocks, which often dominate the moors. Its deep roots alter soil chemistry, and it can crowd out other upland plants, contributing to the drying of bog habitats. You’ll recognise it from its slender yellow stems, which give the moors a golden glow in winter, and tiny purple flowers (spikelets).
